DFW-ADULT BASEBALL TRYOUT DESCRIPTION
Each player should register on the website for the tryout. They should bring their glove, be dressed for baseball, and have cleats if available. You may bring your own bat and catcher's gear if you have it. Balls will be provided at the tryouts. Each player may tryout for any or all positions. After you register you will be given a number that you will pin to your chest. You can then warm up in the right field area. After warming up the league president will take a few moments to inform you a little about the league. He will discuss the season in general, discuss the costs to play in the DFW-ABA, and discuss the draft procedure. There will be managers on the third base dugout area that will draft following the tryouts. Players are not to talk to the managers before or during the tryouts.
Each player will then line up in the outfield and receive two fly balls. After catching the fly balls you will throw them to third base. After receiving your two fly balls you should return to the first base dugout area. Each player will then have the opportunity to field two ground balls from the shortstop area and throw to first base. All first basemen will rotate covering first. After infield tryouts all pitchers and catchers will have the opportunity to tryout. Catchers will rotate with the pitchers depending on the total number of each that tryout. Pitchers will be allowed to throw 8-10 pitches. Catchers will have the opportunity to throw to second base. After the pitching and catching tryout each player will have the opportunity to hit. Hitting will be done off a pitching machine set at approximately 70 mph. Once hitting is completed the draft will be completed. The DFW-ABA cannot guarantee you will be selected in the draft. Many factors may determine whether you get selected. Some teams may only need one player. Other teams may only need a particular position. Some may want to draft only close to where they may practice. If you attend the tryout and do not get selected you will be placed at the top of the player pool to get placed on a team. If you want to make sure you play this season you always have the opportunity to manage a team. The DFW-ABA will utilize the player pool to help fill out your roster.
