HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 2020 - ROBERT FREDETTE

Robert began his NABA career in 1998. A pitcher, for the most part, his success was derived from the incredible players around him.  All he did was pitch to contact and his teamates did the rest.  Robert and his Yankee teammates dominated from 2000 to 2006 winning most spring and fall leagues they played in.  In 2004 his Yankees won the NABA world series in Phoenix.

His current team, the DFW Phillies has been highly sucessful.  Robert now has 7 world series titles.

He is proudest, however, to be able to make the collages of many of the league players.  Those memories last a lifetime and are a testament to the quaility people around him.

    • Began DFWABA Career in 1998
    • 7 world series titles

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 2023 - JOHN LONG

John developed a love of baseball at age seven in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY.  Since then he has been fortunate to have only missed three years of organized ball (60 years), while playing college, military, and recreational ball.  Playing for and against so many ballplayers that have become his brothers on the field has been the most rewarding experience of all for him, sharing the love of the game.

John started his DFW ABA run in 1993 and has played for several teams in different age groups.  He was a dominate catcher for many years, shutting down the running game of most teams.  His offense provided average and power which helped his teams compete for many title games.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 2023 - BILL DOWNING

Playing in this league has given me the opportunity to meet hundreds of players, many of whom have become good friends. That alone brings value to my life and career in the game. I need to thank my wife, the baseball widow, for supporting my playing. Without her support, it wouldn't have happened.

Thanks to all my fellow players and coaches. I've tried to be a good teammate and supportive. For all those opposing players that got HBP......sorry. Kinda. LOL. Many thanks to Our Commissioner, J.D. Magee for running this league that provides us with an opportunity to meet, compete, and play this great game we all obviously love.  J.D. gets more complaints than kudos. Again. Thanks J.D.
Well, its almost time for the new 2024 season openers. Heck. Let's play two.

    • I began playing baseball at the age of 6 in Dallas, TX.
    • Played church and city Little League ball in Dallas until age 12 then Pony and Colt Leagues in Garland until age 16.
    • Discovered the local adult leagues in 2002 and joined DFW-ABA in 2004.
    • During these 20 years in DFW-ABA I've played 34 team seasons from +38 through +57 divisions.

    • Played on 10 World Championship teams to include a NABA World Series Championship as a pitcher with Frank Philips +65 DFW Phillies in 2021.
  • Paul Maust

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 2024 - PAUL MAUST

Paul always loved playing sports as a kid.  He started playing fast-pitch softball in elementary school and continued playing into his mid-30s. In his final game playing fast-pitch softball, Paul was named the MVP of the championship game as he had several great defensive plays and had 2 of the 3 hits his team produced, scoring the winning run on the other hit to win the game 1-0.

After moving to Texas from Western Maryland, Paul started coaching baseball in Little League and managed select baseball teams as his sons got older. He also coached at the high school level for several years.

Unlike most baseball men, Paul never played baseball until he was 52.  He tried out at the 38+ DFW-ABA fall tryouts in August 2000 and was drafted by the Rockies. With his speed, Paul became known throughout the league for his ability to steal bases and bunt for a hit or to move runners, almost anytime he chose to do so. Even though not a power hitter, Paul was known to have great plate discipline, rarely striking out and hitting the ball where the opposing team's fielders could not get to the ball.

Paul played competitively in the 18+ and 25+ leagues into his middle 60’s, going 3 for 4 in an 18+ championship game. As a 64-year-old, Paul had a 0.400+ batting average in the 40+ league.  His teams won league championships in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2020, 2023, and 2024. His teams also finished as the season runner-up 10+ times.

Some other highlights of Paul’s baseball career included playing in many all-star games in the 40+, 50+, and 57-60+ divisions. He had the opportunity to play in the 40+ all-star game as a 74-year-old and went 1 for 2 with a solid single over the shortstop's head, becoming the oldest player in the league to get a base hit in a 40+ all-star game. Another highlight was when Paul’s son, Nathan, played in the 18+ all-star game following the 48+ all-star game Paul played in at Air Hogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, TX.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 2024 - LESTER BEDFORD

Catcher Lester Bedford was voted into the DFW-ABA Hall of Fame in September 2024. His 25-year journey in the league started in 1998 at age 43. He would become the winningest catcher in DFW-ABA history, playing on 22 Championship teams in four different age groups. Bedford has also been a perennial All-Star, having been selected for each of those 25 years. He was the Homerun Derby champion for the 25/over All-Star game at age 49.

Behind the plate, Bedford has been considered an outstanding defensive catcher, shutting down opponents' running game by throwing out more runners than any other catcher in DFW-ABA history. At the plate, he was a top hitter most years. He led several teams in batting average over the years, including hitting .543 for the 2019 Redbirds. He was 63 when he tied for the team batting crown on a team that won the 40/over league championship.

Bedford’s diamond accomplishments include becoming professional baseball’s oldest rookie in 2005, when, at age 49, he played in a regular-season game for the El Paso Diablos against the Pensacola Pelicans. He caught four innings and recorded a leadoff walk in his only professional plate appearance. His Diablos won 10-2.

For five years (2006-2010), Bedford assisted former MLB star Pete Incaviglia as an assistant coach for the minor league Grand Prairie Airhogs. He would start as the team’s Bullpen/Catching coach and then be elevated to Bench coach. He would also assist as a bullpen catcher. Another tentacle of Bedford’s career in baseball included serving as a player agent for more than thirty professional baseball players, including MLB Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett.

Bedford is perhaps best known for his 43 years in Professional Boxing. During this time, he has managed two world champions and managed/marketed over 700 live gate events, including over 200 World Championship fights. He is also the founder and president of the Texas Boxing Hall of Fame

As the son of a seven-year professional baseball player, Bedford’s first love has always been Baseball. He started playing at ten and eventually at Everman High School. He would start his college baseball career at Concordia Lutheran University (Austin, 1976) and then Texas Wesleyan University (Fort Worth, 1977-1979). He graduated from TWU with a degree in Business Psychology and an English minor. He also served as the Sports Editor of the University newspaper, The Rambler. He would also write sports for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for four years.

After his college career, Bedford would not play baseball again until he was 43 when he began his DFW-ABA Hall of Fame career.

I started playing Baseball at the age of 8 yrs old.  I started umpiring Little League ball as a Junior in High School and was a three year Letterman in Baseball, Football, and Track!

I graduated from Azle High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1981 and served 4 years with 1 of those years in Okinawa, Japan.

I started refereeing Basketball in 1987 and started Umpiring again in 1988.

Durwood Merrill, an MLB Umpire, became my mentor because his grandsons played in the Azle Little League program where I was umpiring at the time.

In 1990 I joined the TASO Fort Worth Chapter, and I am still a member today! Durwood suggested that I attend the Joe Brinkman/ Bruce Froemming Professional Umpire School in Cocoa Beach, Florida which I did in 1991.

In 1992, I joined the NABA DFW Men's League.

In 1997 I was selected to go work the Men's Amateur World Series and again in 1998 at which point I took the family as a working Vacation.

I've umpired in other states at various levels of Tournament Ball and would like to work in as many states as possible before retiring from the game.

In 2001 Walt Disney was filming a baseball movie here in Texas titled "The Rookie", so I went to the Casting Call and talked the producers into using Real Umpires.  I was selected as High School Umpire #1.

I am currently planning on working the World Series in Davenport (Orlando area) this year in 2024!
